Discription

This project was developed in Unreal Engine 5 as a single‑player, linear level built around a randomly assigned theme: Mongolia. The goal was to design an engaging player experience inspired by the country’s landscapes and cultural atmosphere.

To achieve this, I constructed an environment based on the mountainous northern regions of Mongolia, shaping the terrain with sweeping ridges, lakes, and natural pathways to guide exploration. The level centres around a hidden relic protected by enemy forces, creating a clear narrative objective and a sense of escalating tension as the player navigates the environment to retrieve it.

This level serves as the opening chapter of a two‑part sequence, concluding beneath a cliff face that transitions directly into Level 2, which was designed by my teammate as part of this duo project. Together, the two levels form a cohesive progression from initial exploration into the main facility deeper within the world and ensuring this change required deep collaboration.

This project was constructed using the Advanced Locomotion System (ALS) Template.

Development Responsibilities:

  • Create the entire first level, including planning, landscaping, and world-building, to achieve the desired effect for blockout testing.

  • Develop blueprints to trigger player cutscenes and events.

  • Edit package blueprints to function in line with the project vision

  • Conduct playtesting with over 20 participants, gathering feedback and developing the level based on feedback received.

  • Develop new iterations of the level in a short timeframe to present changes in a blockout fashion, ensuring the playtesters felt their concerns were addressed in newer iterations while maintaining the project vision.

  • Prepare the project for a shipped build to conduct public playtesting, gathering community feedback, ensuring the project was fun in a blockout prototype.
